Hello, crafty friends! Welcome to Altenew’s 5th-anniversary blog hop. If you are coming from one of my favorite people, Jennifer McGuire’s blog, you are right on track!
My Top 9 Altenew Cards
It’s been my pleasure to be designing for Altenew since I joined the Altenew card design team in 2015. These are some of my favorite Altenew cards that I created for the past 5 years. If you want more details of a particular card, just click on the link below to go to the original post.
- Column 1: I love you, Congrats, Hugs & Kisses,
- Column 2: Monogram N, Monogram S, Live in the moment
- Column 3: You inspire me, Beautiful, Floral bouquet
My Altenew Stamp Designs
These are some of the stamp sets that I’ve illustrated for Altenew. Do you own any stamp sets from above? What’s your favorite stamp set from Altenew? Make sure to check out My Stamp Designs page to see all of the products I designed for the last five years.
To celebrate Altenew’s 5th anniversary, I created a one layer watercolor card using some of my all-time Altenew favorite stamp sets. Here is the list of stamp sets I used for my card.
- Flowers/leaves: Beautiful Day, Remember This
- Sentiments: Peony Spray, Adore You
For my watercolor card, I started by stamping the large floral image from the Beautiful Day Stamp Set with Permanent Black Ink on the bottom of my A2 size Arches cold press watercolor paper. Then I masked off the flower with a full adhesive post-it note and stamped the additional flowers and leaves from both Beautiful Day Stamp Set and Remember This Stamp Set.
I did the same for the top portion of my panel, making sure that the main flower image appeared the foreground and the rest images stamped partially behind the flower. FYI, I stamped each image two times using my mini MISTI Stamping Tool so I got a nice crisp impression.
Then I colored my images with Altenew Watercolor Brush Markers: Spring Garden, Winter Wonderland, and Tropical Fiesta. FYI, here is the list of the colors I used for my watercoloring.
- Large Flowers: Winter Wonderland(Ruby Red, Rouge, Citrus Burst), Spring Garden(Midnight Violet, Evening Gray), Tropical Fiesta(Sunkissed)
- Leaves: Spring Garden(Midnight Violet, Evening Gray), Tropical Fiesta(Sweet Leaf, Lime, Paper Bag)
- Small Flowers: Winter Wonderland(Lagoon), Spring Garden(Autumn Blaze, Warm Sunshine)
I scribbled my watercolor brush marker on the watercolor palette(which was my lipstick organizer) first and picked up the color with my watercolor paintbrush #3. I applied the color toward the bottom of each petal and the areas where two petals meet together to indicate the shading areas.
Next, I rinsed my watercolor paintbrush with clean water, wiped off the excess water using a paper towel, and pulled the color out from the darker stroke before the previous stroke was dry create some smooth transition on the color. I repeated the same process until I finished the entire images.
If you let the color dry between applications, you’ll leave harsh lines between layers. If you don’t like those harsh lines, you can soften the hard edges using your wet watercolor paintbrush. Please note that I’m intentionally leaving some white areas to indicate the highlights on some of the petals/leaves.
To add interest on my background, I splattered the background with Altenew Watercolor Brush Markers after covering my images with post-it notes. After drying the splatters with my heat tool, I stamped the sentiments in the middle of my watercolor panel with Permanent Black Ink.
I used the mini MISTI Stamping Tool again so I have a perfect placement of my sentiments which are from the following stamp sets: Peony Spray and Adore You.
After that, I mounted my watercolor panel on the A2 sized top folding card base using double-sided tape. I finished off my card by adding some tiny dots on the center of my flowers using a white gel pen.
I combined two sentiment stamps from the Beautiful Inside Stamp Set to add a message inside of my card. I also dressed up my envelope by heat embossing the sentiment from the Crafty Friends Stamp Set with some Antique Gold Embossing Powder on a flap of my green envelope.
To finish off my card, I stamped a fun sentiment and envelope image from the Crafty Friends Stamp Set on the back of my card. That’s all for my card today.

First of all I want to say awesome blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if
you don’t mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing.
I’ve had a hard time clearing my thoughts in getting my
thoughts out there. I do take pleasure in writing but it just seems
like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually wasted just trying
to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips? Many thanks!
