Hello, and welcome to Altenew’s June 2019 Stamp/Die/Stencil Release Blog Hop! If you came from the super talented Kelly Griglione’s blog, you are right on track.
To celebrate a release of new stamps, dies, and stencils, I created a watercolor card using the new Forever in Love Stamp & Die Bundle and Watercolor 36 Pan Set from Altenew.
My inspiration came from the watercolor card I created for the Altenew 50K Instagram Hop last week. I just loved the watercolor glazing technique I applied on my florals and the watercolor wash on my background.
I wasn’t able to film a video tutorial, but I wanted to share a photo of me working on my watercolor piece the other night. It was therapeutic especially after a tough day at work.
I started by die-cutting my image first from the Forever in Love Die Set out of Arches Cold Pressed watercolor paper. I placed the negative side of my die cut panel and inlay my die cut inside the openings. Then I stamped the image from the Forever in Love Stamp Set with Altenew Obsidian Pigment Ink which is my new favorite black ink.
That way I was able to stamp my image to fit in my die cut perfectly so my stamped image has an even white area around the edges.
Next, I watercolored my images using Altenew Watercolor 36 Pan Set and round watercolor paintbrush #3. FYI, here are the paint colors I used for watercoloring:
- Flowers: Coral Berry, Rubellite, Grapevine, Citrus Burst
- Leaves: Industrial Diamond, Moon Rock
I lightly coated the first layer with Coral Berry and Rubellite after diluting paints with water. Then I added the second layer with a darker color, Grapevine, toward the bottom of each petal.
After previous layers dried, I applied Citrus Burst on the entire petals to create some unexpected color.
After my coloring is done, I created a watercolor wash background on the A2 size watercolor paper leaving some white areas intentionally. Then I mounted it on the A2 size white top folding card base using double-sided tape. Next, I splattered the background with Altenew Jet Black Ink Spray.
I mounted my watercolored die-cut on the card front using 3M foam tape. Then I heat embossed the sentiment from Altenew Simple Flowers Stamp Set using Pure White Embossing Powder on a piece of black cardstock. After cutting out my sentiment into a thin banner, I mounted it on the card front using 3M foam tape to give dimension.
I finished off by adding some Studio Katia Shimmering Ice Sequins to embellish my card, but I’m not sure it was a right decision. I think it would have been look better without sequins. What do you think?

Since then I stopped comparing my coloring projects with others and started enjoying every moment of coloring-especially watercoloring. A few months ago I noticed that my watercolor skills got improved a lot just because I didn’t give up and kept practicing. Now I proudly can say that coloring is therapeutic.”
