Happy Friday! I created a floral watercolor card to join in the Altenew Instagram hop and I decided to share it on my blog, too. By the way, my inspiration came from the amazing card Erum Tasneem created.
It’s a shame that my camera failed to catch all the beauty of my watercoloring as I took my photos last night. I promise my watercolor card looks much better in real life. 😉
I’ve tried watercolor glazing technique and it was so much fun! If you want me to make a video tutorial on how to color florals using the glazing technique, just leave a comment below.
I started by die-cutting my image from the Build-A-Flower: Cattleya twice out of Arches Cold Pressed watercolor paper. Then I stamped the image from the Build-A-Flower: Cattleya with Altenew Obsidian Pigment Ink which is my new favorite black ink.
Next, I watercolored my images using Mijello Mission Gold 36 Watercolor Set and round watercolor paintbrush #3. FYI, here are the paint colors I used for watercoloring:
- Flowers: Bright Clear Violet, Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Blue, Bright Opera, Yellow Orange
- Buds/stems: Hooker’s Green, Sap Green, Vividian
I lightly coated the first layer with pigment after diluting it with water. Then I added the second layer with a darker color. I took some time to color each petal and didn’t do it quickly.
After my coloring is done, I created a watercolor wash background on the A2 size watercolor paper and mounted it on the A2 size white top folding card base using double-sided tape. Then I splattered the background with orange watercolor paint.
I stamped the sentiment from the Best Buds Stamp Set with Altenew Obsidian Pigment Ink on the left bottom side of my card front. I finished off my card by mounting my watercolored die-cut pieces on the card front using 3M foam tape.
