Hello, and welcome to Altenew’s July 2019 Stamp/Die/Stencil Release Blog Hop! If you came from the Altenew Card Blog, you are right on track.
To celebrate a release of new stamps, dies, and stencils, I created a messy yet easy watercolor card using the new Pen Sketched Flowers Stamp Set.
My inspiration came from the loose watercolor leaves and gold foil accents from the Misty Meadows Washi Tape.
However, I almost threw away my card as I felt like I was making a crap halfway in the video. You’ll understand why I didn’t like my half-finished card once you watch my video HERE.

I started by inking up my stamps from the Leaf Clusters Stamp Set with Altenew inks, spritz the stamps with a water spray, and stamp the images on to my A2 size Arches Cold Pressed watercolor paper.
I used my Original MISTI Stamping Tool as I wanted to apply different colors for each stamping while I was stamping the images on the same position.
I repeated the same process until I created a background of leaves on the entire panel: inking, misting, stamping, and inking again. There were some areas that didn’t stamp well because they didn’t get wet enough. So I softend the stamped images using my wet watercolor paintbrush.
Next, I stamped the images from the Pen Sketched Flowers Stamp Set with Altenew Embossing Ink, making sure that the orientation of my stamps was coordinating with the direction of my leaves.
Then I heat embossed the images with Rose Gold Embossing Powder as I wanted to add a warm tone look to my images.
Then I watercolored my images loosely. I didn’t worry about the colors going outside the embossed images. Once you are done with the first layer, you can apply darker colors here and there to get a more interesting look.
Next, I created a watercolor wash background. You can also start by applying lots of water over the watercolor paper so the color moves around easily when you apply ink. After drying my panel, I mounted it on the A2 size white top folding card base using double-sided tape.
I heat embossed the sentiment from Sentiment Stripes Stamp Set using Pure White Embossing Powder on a piece of black cardstock. After cutting out my sentiment into a thin banner, I mounted it on the card front using 3M foam tape to give dimension.
I finished off by adding some Iridescent Bubbles from Studio Katia to embellish my card, but I’m not sure it was a right decision. I think it would have been look better without sequins. What do you think?
For my watercoloring, I chose Altenew inks because they are water-based so the inks react with water well. FYI, here are the ink colors I used for watercoloring:
- Flowers: Rubellite, Razzleberry
- Leaves: Bamboo, Olive, Moss
