To celebrate their 3rd anniversary, I create a one layer watercolor card using one of my favorite stamp sets from Studio Katia which is the Blooming Bunch Stamp Set.
I wasn’t able to film a video tutorial, but my husband took me a photo of me watercoloring the other night. This floral image was so fun to color! Blooming Bunch Stamp Set is must-have if you love coloring – especially if you are not good at creating your own floral arrangement.
I started by stamping the bouquet image from the Blooming Bunch Stamp Set with Obsidian Pigment Ink on the A2-sized Arches Cold Pressed Watercolor Paper.
It’s usually hard to get a good clean impression because of the texture on the watercolor paper. So I used my Mini MISTI stamping tool and stamped my images twice.
Next, I taped down my watercolor paper on the Watercolor Palette using washi tape. This step helped me prevent my paper from warping while watercoloring. It also helped me move around the position of my watercolor panel without touching my watercolor piece.
Next, I watercolored my images using Gansai Tambi 36 Watercolor Set and round watercolor paintbrush #3. I applied some light colors for the first layer and added the second/third layers with darker colors toward the bottom of each petal.
I often use a small paintbrush for watercoloring because it helps me control my coloring better especially when I work on small areas. But it takes more time to complete compared to using a large size paintbrush.
After my coloring is done, I created a watercolor wash background leaving some white areas intentionally. I loaded lots of water on my watercolor paintbrush as I didn’t want to create intense colors.
Then I mounted it on the A2 size white top folding card base using double-sided tape and added some white dots on the center of two flowers using a white gel pen to add interest to my card.
I was going to mount a sentiment banner across my card front. But I changed my mind and stamped the sentiment from the Blooming Bunch Stamp Set with Obsidian Pigment Ink directly on the right bottom side of my card front. That way, I was able to hide my mistake which is the watercolor blot I wasn’t happy about.
