Mixed Media Card Ideas
My inspiration came from these mixed media cards that I created a few months ago, using one of my favorite cardmaking formulas: stenciled background using embossing paste, ink splatters on the background, color layered image die cuts as a focal point, script word die-cut, gold accent, and black sentiment banner!

Mixed Media Card Ideas
You can make your card easier by leaving your background clean without splatters or using washi tape design elements instead of stamping color layered images.

I started by mixing Altenew Embossing Paste with Tonic Nuvo Glimmer Paste and applying the paste over the Broken Chevrons Stencil onto the entire panel of A2 size 140LB watercolor paper. I used the watercolor paper because I didn’t want my background to look extra white. I also left some areas toward the edges as a breathing room.
To add interest on my background, I added some splatters randomly over my panel using Altenew Ink Sprays: Jet Black Ink Spray and Frosty Pink. Then I let my panel air dry for about 10-15 minutes.
Then I die cut the images from the Delicate Clusters Die Set and stamped my flowers and stems from the Delicate Clusters Stamp Set using Altenew Crisp Dye Ink Pads on the die-cut pieces.
Here is the list of ink colors I used for stamping:
- Flowers: Pink Pearl, Coral Bliss, Heart Beat, Vineyard Berry
- Stems: Evening Gray, Moon Rock, Lava Rock
After mounting my die cuts on the card front using 3M foam tape, I attached my sentiment banner on top of the middle part of my stems. The sentiment from the Floral Garden Stamp Set was stamped with Embossing Ink on a piece of black cardstock and heat embossed it using Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder.
I added some tiny white pearls on the center of each flower. Adding an embellishment is an easy way to add some interest on your card. If you don’t have small-sized pearls, you can add dots using a white gel pen.
I created another card using the same design. This time I used the Sunburst Stencil for my background and I used the following ink colors for my images.
- Flowers: Citrus Burst, Fresh Lemon, Honey Drizzle, Paper Bag
- Stems: Evening Gray, Moon Rock, Lava Rock
I made sure to go over all over the surface with my spatula to make it smooth toward the center of my panel, leaving some clean areas around the edge of my panel.
You can also mix your embossing paste with coloring mediums like ink sprays or watercolor paints to create your own colored embossing paste. You can go even further by applying the embossing powder over your texture pasted background and heat emboss it to create extra dimension and texture.
I used the sentiment from the Crafty Life Stamp Set for my second card. I don’t have photos, but I stamped the additional sentiments inside my card using the Beautiful Inside Stamp Set and on the back of the card using my favorite Crafty Life Stamp Set. 
By the way, I used the new Altenew Obsidian Pigment Ink for stamping my sentiments which is perfect for stamping extremely fine and detailed sentiments and images. The rich black color dries quickly and does not fade. It’s also waterproof and works beautifully with watercolor and other water-based mediums.
