Hello, and welcome to Altenew’s April 2019 Stamp/Die/Stencil Release Blog Hop! If you came from the super talented Jennifer McGuire’s blog, you are right on track.
To celebrate a release of new stamps, dies, and paper packs, I created a one layer handmade card with my own stamped background using the new Rose Spray Stamp Set that I illustrated for this release.
When I illustrated the Rose Spray Stamp Set, I came up with four A2 sized card samples for your inspiration so you can easily case one of them when you don’t have any card ideas. These samples are included in the trifold insert card of the stamp set.

I started cutting down my panel into 4.25″x5.5″ out of Neenah Solar White 80LB Cardstock using my Tim Holtz paper trimmer. Then I stamped the flowers from the Rose Spray Stamp Set on my panel using my Original MISTI Stamping Tool, leaving some space on the center.
After that, I stamped the leaves from the Rose Spray Stamp Set after masking off the flowers using a full adhesive post-it note.
When it comes to creating my own stamped background, I always start stamping larger images first and fill in the gap with smaller images later. And it’s very important to stamp your large images in the right place as they help balance the rest of your small images.
FYI, here is the list of ink colors from Altenew Crisp Dye Ink Collection that I used for color layering.
- Flowers: Sunkissed, Orange Cream, Autumn Blaze
- Leaves: Olive, Moss
After my background is done, I stamped the sentiment from the Oriental Orchid Stamp Set with Altenew Permanent Black Ink on the center of my panel. Then I drew some lines to form a rectangle frame around my sentiment using a black marker.
To finish off my card, I added some dots between the images using a fine tip of Altenew Artist Marker: Silver Stone. You could use a tiny solid circle stamp if you want to.
If you are looking for an easy way to dress up your stamped background, this dot technique will give your card a more finished look while small dots add subtle details to your card design.
There is no photo, but I stamped an additional sentiment inside my card using the Crafty Life Stamp Set and back of my card using the Crafty Friends Stamp Set.
I also made a matching envelope using the Envelope Liner Die Set and the Blushing Blooms 6×6 Paper Pack from Altenew. After I die cut the liner out some patterned paper, I attached it inside my white envelope with Altenewe glue tape.
