How-to Video | DIY Mixed Media Floral Cards + $200 Prize Pack Giveaway(Stamps, Dies, Stencils, and More!)
Hi, crafty friends! Today I just wanted to start by sharing a bit of my personal life with you all. If you follow me on Instagram Stories, you already know that I moved from California to Texas two weeks ago. I’m in the process of organizing my craft room and I still have a few more moving boxes to unpack.
It wasn’t easy to make cards and be creative while settling in. That’s why I decided to copy my own design for today’s project. Of course, I tried to tweak a few things so they don’t look too similar.
This is the congratulations card that I created last month and it contains my (current) favorite cardmaking formula which is mixed of embossed stencil background, ink splatters, color layered floral die-cut, gold script word die-cut, and black sentiment banner! I seriously can’t get enough of this formula.
Video Tutorial
I made a video tutorial to show you how to create my card from start to finish. You can watch it above or in HD on YouTube.
This video includes:
- Where I get my inspiration and how I decide my supplies
- Techniques: stenciling, splattering, heat embossing, color layering
- How to add texture/interest on the background using embossing paste and ink sprays
- How to season new clear stamps for the better stamping result
- Two ways to do color layering without showing the outline image
- How to choose the right sentiment that works well with your card design
- A couple of ways to fix your heat embossing mistakes
- A quick peek at my new craft room which hasn’t fully organized yet
*Since I filmed the video in my new place, the setting for microphone and lighting is not perfect yet. Hope I can find the right setting soon so I can share the better quality videos with you all.
When it comes to using stencils, I love creating a stenciled background using white embossing paste for creating some texture and dimension. Applying texture paste over the stencil is so much fun and anyone can make a gorgeous background.
I started by mixing some Ranger Texture Paste and Tonic Nuvo Glimmer Paste and applying the paste over the Square Weave Pattern Stencil onto the entire panel of A2 size 110LB white cardstock, leaving some areas toward the edges. Then I let my panel air dry for about 10-15 minutes.
Next, I mounted my panel on an A2 size top folding white card base using double-sided tape. To add interest on my background, I added some splatters randomly over my panel using Altenew Ink Sprays: Antique Gold Metallic Ink Spray and Jet Black Ink Spray.
After that, I stamped my flowers and leaves from the Build-A-Flower: Cattleya Stamp Set using Altenew Crisp Dye Ink Pads on a piece of white cardstock. Here is the list of ink colors I used for stamping:
- Flowers: Rose Quartz, Puffy Heart, Purple Wine
- Leaves: Bamboo, Parrot, Moss
I die cut my image using the Build-A-Flower: Cattleya Die Set and the Spellbinders Platinum die cut machine. Then I mounted my die cut flower spray on the card front using 3M foam tape to give some dimension.
After that, I die cut “congrats” 5 times out of Jet Black Cardstock from the Signature Words Die Set using Altenew Mini Blossom die cutting machine. Then I adhered my die cuts together using a glue pen to achieve a chipboard effect.
I heat embossed the sentiment from the Build-A-Flower: Cattleya Stamp Set using some Pure White Embossing Powder on a piece of black cardstock. After cutting out my sentiment into a banner using a craft knife and ruler, I mounted the sentiment banner and die cut congrats on the card front using 3M foam tape to finish off my card.
By the way, I used the Deco Wallpaper Stencil for creating the embossed background on my second card. Here is the list of ink colors I used for the second card:
- Flowers: Buttercream, Warm Sunshine, Caramel Toffee
- Leaves: Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades, Evergreen
Here is a couple of tips on how to fix your mistake on the heat embossed sentiment on the black cardstock. Just use a white gel pen to go over the white embossed areas to connect the lines and fill in the missing parts. For the melted white stray powder, you can simply cover it using a black pen.
Don’t you just love all the texture and shimmer on the background? I hope you love my cards.

I just love to share! So I’m giving away one prize pack valued at over $200 including new/one-time used/old stamps, dies, stencils, and more from various companies that I love.
I’m pretty generous when it comes to sending a prize to the winner. So if you don’t mind getting extra “old” products, I’d be happy to include more products in the package.
