How-to Video | Altenew Crafty Friends Blog Hop Day 1 + Giveaway
Hello, crafty friends! Welcome to Altenew’s Crafty Friends blog hop. If you are coming from the fabulous Jennifer McGuire’s blog, you are in the right place.
(Photos were taken at Creativation in January 2018 )
I have been so lucky to make some amazing friendships for the past few years. I’m so thankful to be part of this paper crafting community which is full of kind, amazing, talented, supportive, and fun-loving ladies.
(Photos were taken at the Cincinnati Crafty Retreat in October 2018 )
I still have many of my crafty friends who I haven’t met in person. However, we can always keep in touch by sending cards to one another! I think this is the beauty of my hobby, cardmaking.
These are some of the cards that I created in 2018 inspired by my talented crafty friends. I used to love making clean and simple one layer cards with lots of white space. This year I find myself experimenting with many different styles and techniques which I’m really proud of.
To celebrate our friendships in this special paper crafting community, I created a festive winter holiday card inspired by the super talented Enza Gudor. She created an amazing scrapbook layout using the images from the Holiday Bow Stamp Set, and I wanted to create my own version of a holiday bouquet on the card.
Video Tutorial
I made a video tutorial to show you how to create my card from start to finish. You can watch it above or in HD on YouTube.
This video includes:
- How to create an inked background using the ink blending technique
- How to arrange the elements to make them balance together
- A few tips on how to embellish your cards and decorate matching envelopes
- Two ways to flick white ink onto the background
- Behind-the-scenes of my craft desk – I hope you relate to my messy desk
I started by ink blending my background with Tim Holtz Distress Inks on A2 size watercolor paper. I inked darker colors toward the edge of my panel so it looks brighter toward the center of the panel.
I flicked some white ink onto my ink blended background using Hero Arts Unicorn Ink Spray. If you are not a fan of splattering ink, you could add tiny dots using a white gel pen instead to mimic the look. Then I mounted my inked panel on an A2 size top folding white card base using double-sided tape after drying my panel for about 10 minutes.
Next, I stamped the images from the Holiday Bow Stamp Set using Altenew Crisp Dye Ink Pads on a piece of white cardstock. Then I die cut my images using the Holiday Bow Die Set and the Spellbinders Platinum die cut machine. I mounted die cut elements on the card front using 3M foam tape to create a festive arrangement.
I heat embossed the sentiment from the Starry Night Stamp Set using White Embossing Powder on a piece of black cardstock. After cutting out my sentiment into a thin banner using a craft knife and ruler, I mounted the sentiment banner on the card front using 3M foam tape to finish off my card.
