Hi, crafty friends! Today I have a fun card featuring Altenew Starry Flowers Stamp Set. I stepped out of my comfort zone and created a MESSY controlled background.
I started by stamping the floral images from Altenew Starry Flowers Stamp Set along the border with embossing ink on the A2 size watercolor paper. Then I sprinkled some Altenew Pure White Embossing Powder over the stamped images and tapped off the excess powder. Next, I heat set the images with a heat tool until the embossing powder was completed melted.
Then I created a messy watercolor background using a wet paintbrush and several Tim Holtz distress inks over the entire panel while I was watercoloring each flower loosely. FYI here is the list of ink colors I used: Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, Worn Lipstick, Festive Berries, Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Peacock Feathers, Shaded Lilac.
After my watercolor panel was dry, I added some splatters using Tim Holtz distress inks and Ranger Perfect Pearls. Then I cut the panel into 4″x5.25″ using Tim Holtz Tonic Paper Trimmer and mounted it on to A2 size top folding white card base with 3M foam tape to give dimension.
I stamped the sentiment from Altenew Rustic Linen Stamp Set with on a piece of black cardstock with Altenew Embossing Ink and heat embossed it with Altenew Pure White Embossing Powder. Next, I trimmed my sentiment into a thin strip and mounted my sentiment strip banner on the card front using 3M foam tape after adding some dash lines with a white gel pen.
To add some interest to my watercolor background, I added a bunch of small dots using Tonic Nuvo Crystal Drops: Dandelion Yellow, Apple Green, Caribbean Ocean, Bubblegum Blush, and Black. I ended up adding too many dots – I just couldn’t stop! Hehe. 🙂
I’m not sure this messy background was what I was going to achieve in the beginning. I have mixed feelings about the result of my card. What do you think?
