Hero Arts: Mermaid Themed Watercolor Cards Mijello Mission Gold Watercolor Set
Happy Monday! Welcome to the Hero Arts May 2017 My Monthly Hero Kit Blog Hop. If you came from the amazing Jessica’s blog, you are right on track!
Today the creative team girls and guests are sharing some fabulous projects to celebrate the release of May 2017 My Monthly Hero Kit.
I created a mermaid themed watercolor card using Mijello Mission Gold watercolor set, inspired by my own card, Fairy themed watercolor card.
I just adore the mermaid images from May 2017 My Monthly Hero Kit. It was so fun to watercolor even though they are small images. I die cut the Reef Frame Border out of white watercolor paper and popped it up against the colorful watercolor background.
I just love how detailed the Reef Frame Border Die is. It adds details and interest to my card so beautifullly. Depending on colored cardstock you use to die cut the reef border, you will get a different look for sure.
How to Make a Mermaid Themed Card using Watercoloring
- Stamp the mermaid images from the main kit with Versafine Onyx black ink on a piece of Canson cold pressed watercolor paper. (I used the mini MISTI stamping tool to make sure I get a good impression while stamping on the watercolor paper.)
- Color the fairies with Mijello Mission Gold Watercolor Set. (There are so many mediums you can watercolor with. You may find this video helpful: Watercolor Mediums Comparison.)
- Die cut the fairies with coordinating dies using Spellbinders diecut machine.
- Create a watercolor wash background using Mijello Mission Gold Watercolor Set. (To get the better result, use a large paintbrush and heat the paint before adding more colors.)
- Add some ink splatters on the watercolor background using white watercolor paint.
- Die cut the frame using Reef Border Frame Die out of watercolor paper.
- Stamp the sentiment from the May 2017 My Monthly Hero Kit. on the watercolor panel with Versafine Onyx black ink.
- Adhere the watercolor panel on an A2 sized top folding card using double sided tape.
- Mount the diecut frame and mermaids on the card using 3M foam tape.
- Add several Pretty Pink Posh clear droplets on the card front using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.

I made another mermaid themed card using the Hero Arts Mermaid stamp. After stamping the image on a watercolor paper with Versafine Onyx black ink, I watercolored it with Mijello Mission Gold watercolor set.
After I created a watercolor wash background, I added some paint splatters and stamped the sentiment from May 2017 My Monthly Hero Kit.
