Hello, and welcome to the Essentials by Ellen Holiday 2016 Release Blog Hop! If you came from the amazing Carly’s blog, you are right on track! To celebrate the release of Essentials by Ellen’s holiday products, I created a couple of fun Christmas cards.
Anything is possible on a Christmas card, right? I wanted to express how I feel about Christmas – something magical and whimsical! I thought those cute, happy images from the Light Parade stamp set would be perfect to build my imaginary winter scene.
How to Make a Christmas Card using Ink Blending and Copic Coloring
- Cut white cardstock into 4.25″x5.5″ out of Hero Arts Layering Papers.
- Ink the colors on the paper using mini blending tools and Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Mermaid Lagoon, Peacock Fathers, Cracked Pistachio, and Twisted Citron.
- Add white splatters on the inked background by mixing white watercolor paint and Ranger Perfect Pearl.
- Die cut the circle out of 4.25″x5.5″ white cardstock using 3.5″ circle die and mount the negative die cut on the inked panel using foam tape.
- Stamp the images from the Light Parade stamp set with Hero Arts Intense Black Ink.
- Color the images with Copic markers, die cut them with the Light Parade die set, and mount the die cut images on the card front using foam tape.
- Heat emboss the sentiment from the Season To Sparkle stamp set with white embossing powder on a piece of red cardstock and mount the sentiment banner on the card front.
I know the winter sky doesn’t quite look like above. However, I really wanted to feature traditional Christmas colors – red and green – on my card to bring some holiday cheer.
I had so much fun coloring those Christmas houses. Such perfect images for creating my happy Christmas scene! By the way, I used the masking technique to stamp only first two lines of the original sentiment from the Season To Sparkle stamp set.
For my second card, I was inspired by my Thanksgiving wreath card that I made last month. Seriously, possibilities are endless with this wreath design by combining small images you may already have.
How to Make a Christmas Wreath Card using Masking and Copic Coloring
- Draw a 3.25″ circle using a pencil and circle die from Hero Arts Circle Infinity die set on the A2 sized top folding card. (If you don’t have a circle die, you can trace the bottom of a cup or round plate.)
- Stamp the images from various stamp sets: Light Parade, Homespun Holiday, and Tree Farm along the pencil line with the Hero Arts Intense Black Ink. (To add some interest, I did some masking to overlap the images while stamping.)
- Erase the pencil line and color the images with Copic markers.
- Stamp part of the sentiment from the Season To Sparkle stamp set inside the circle with black ink.
- Die cut the word PEACE using the Holiday Words die set out of Altenew Gold Foil Cardstock and pop up the die cut word below the sentiment with black foam squares.
