CASology #90: Raindrop Thank You Card

by May Park-

Hi crafty friends! It’s Tuesday and that means time for a brand new cue word over at CASology. Here is this week’s cue card:Screen Shot 2014-04-07 at 10.08.19 PM

This one had me scratching my head for a few days. I know there are so many places you could go with this cue word… rain, umbrella, baby shower, beach, swimming, watercolor… the list is endless! But it didn’t work for me. I didn’t know which direction to approach it from. Then I created a ‘silhouette of house in the rain’ card, but I just didn’t like it. Thankfully, I had a sudden idea yesterday and chose to go with a raindrop, and here is my take on WET.

I really look forward to having some rain, because I live in super dry yet oh-so-beautiful Southern California. I would really appreciate that if we had some moisture in the air from time to time. That’s the path I followed to come up with a raindrop thank you card. I used one sentiment and one image to create a clean and simple card, making sure to leave plenty of white space around my bold focal point. For the raindrop, I used the rain cloud cut file from the Silhouette store, took one of the raindrops, and adjusted to make it bigger.

To add shiny and moist look/texture to my raindrop, I used the Clear Ultra Thick Enamel embossing powder from Ranger.  I’m so pleased with how it turned out. Once I had an idea, it took me under 10 minutes to whip up the card.

Here is how I created my card. 1)Sponge the color over the card front using Distress Ink: broken china. 2)Dab the inked area with versamark ink pad. 3)Heat emboss it using clear enamel embossing power. 4)Cut out the raindrop panel using Silhloutte cutting machine and stamp the sentiment from Lawn Fawn stamp set 5)Draw some faux-stitched lines using marker. 6)Adhere the panel over the card base using double-sided tape.

Since I loved the effect of enamel heat embossing, I made another version. I created three smaller raindrops instead. They look fabulous in real life. Hope you can catch the gorgeousness from the photo above. Which card do you like best? Needless to say, I adore both cards!

FYI, these are the supplies I used to create my card: enamel embossing powder was not pictured. I hope you play along with us this week, there is a wonderful prize up for grabs from STAMPlorations and the winner will have a chance to guest design on the next challenge – more details are on the CASology blog. Make sure to stop by each of the DT’s blog for more inspiration! Thanks so much for stopping by. Happy crafting!

May, you did it again! Brilliance on both cards! I especially love the wet texture by clear embossing over the ink…wow! I think I prefer the second card with the three smaller drops, but honestly I love both! 🙂

Simply amazing, it so GREAT to have a Cue really challenge you. I had trouble too… though you really pulled from your imagination and not a standby, I love your creativity , and more importantly your imagination and hoe you use it in each challenge. I enjoy your work immensely!

Can i say that I adore both cards. They are so simple and so gorgeous. OK, just a teensy bit more wow for the 2nd card, because those raindrops are so very perfectly placed and sized together. And, yes, I hear you on needing some rain. Badly. Until then, I am enjoying our sunny days.

What a great design for the ‘wet’ theme May! The drops look wonderful clear embossed – If I had to choose – I think I favor the card with the 3 smaller drops!
