Happy Sunday, crafty friends. Hope you are having a great weekend! The current challenge at Catered Crop is “Canning Jar” – we are supposed to use canning jars in our creations. You can use a real jar and fill it, alter it, tag it, and decorate it. Or you can create a card with stamped jar.
Since I got an antique blue canning jar from lovely Linda, I decided to make something vintage which goes with it. As you may know, I’m a huge fan of CAS style not vintage. But this time I wanted to go out of my comfort zone and, needless to say, it was absolutely challenging to me. I had no idea where to start, so I pulled out all the supplies related to vintage project such as distress inks, acrylic paint dabbers, grunge stamp set, and etc. Then I was looking at them for a few minutes to figure it out what I could make with. Finally I ended up with six beautiful, at least to me, vintage tags. 🙂
I started by die cutting a 3″ × 5″ tag from a Taylored Expression tag die. Then I created my own backdrop using Heidi Swapp color mists, Tim Holtz distress inks, and Ranger acrylic paint dabbers. After that, I did some stamping with Tim Holtz Grunge Background and Papertrey Ink Text Style stamp sets. Next, I added fabric chipboard letter stickers on the bottom after inking the letters with distress inks. For more aged look, I applied some crackle accents on each letter.
Actually I didn’t expect that I would enjoy whole process for my vintage project. But once I started, I was even excited to see all my hands got inky. In addition, I found out so many possibilities out of vintage supplies that I have. It’s a shame that I have barely used them for a long time.
FYI, these are the supplies that I used to create my vintage tags. I tied the tags with seam binding, which I found at the Long Beach antique market, after inking each ribbon with some distress inks.
That’s all I have for today. I love the way my tags turned out. Each tag looks different yet very unique even though I used same supplies. I’m so sure they will make autumn gifts extra special by simply adding the tags.
As usual, there is an fabulous Pinterest board that Linda has curated. You can head over to her board, Canning Jars, to find links to all the inspiring projects. I hope you play along with us at Catered Crop as the winners will have a chance to guest design on the next recipe swap.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Happy crafting!
