Cord-Wrapped Mirror Card

by May Park-

Hello, crafty friends! I’m excited to tell you that I’m now a designer for the Catered Crop. Yay! This week’s theme is “Just Add Glitter Recipe Swap” which includes glitter somewhere on our projects. The glitter challenge is totally outside of my comfort zone. So I needed to experiment with glitter for the last few days, and I ended up with two cards that I shared yesterday.

Here is my first *official* design project for the Catered Crop Recipe Swap. I was inspired by Peggy Mirror, which looked so fresh and contemporary. This time I decided not to go with a clean and simple card, but I wanted my card to have a vintage and masculine look. So I chose the wood-grain patterned paper from My Mind’s Eye. Then I machine-stitched around the paper to achieve more finished look.

To decorate my mirror, I started by cutting out a donut-shaped ring (3″ diameter with a 2″ diameter hole) from a cardboard. I was planning to make a card using wooden clothespins for the mirror embellishments. But I couldn’t find any clothespins in my chaotic craft room where all the boxes were stacked up before our move. So I pulled out some hemp cords with metallic twists and then I wound them around the ring.

FYI : I cut the hemp cord into manageable lengths, held one end on the outside of the ring, fed the other end through the hole, around the back and through the front again. I repeated this with different color hemp cords, securing them with glue dots along the way until all the cardboard was covered.

For the sentiment, I cut out letters with a Silhouette SD cutting machine. I wanted the sentiment look like chipboard letters. So I had to make twelve cuts for each letter. After I got all twelve cut-outs of the first letter, I glued them together to make one thick letter. Then I applied glue onto the top of each multi-layered letter and sprinkled some crystal coarse glitter from Martha Stewart Crafts. FYI, the total number of cuts was eighty-four! Whew, I was wiped. 😉

To place the sentiment, I made a faux wooden shelf using a planking flooring sample that I got at Home Depot. Next, I adhered the faux shelf onto the panel of my card using hot glue. Lastly, I made my letters stand on the shelf using lots of dimensional adhesive. I managed my sentiment to look like monogram letter for shelf decor as well. What do you think?

I made this card for my husband who will quit his job this week and start a new chapter in his life. When he sees himself in the mirror every morning, I want him to think that he is the best and doing great. I really think my hubby is the best. 🙂 That’s why I chose the sentiment, “YOU ROCK”.

That’s all for today. For more inspiration and all the details, please check out the Catered Crop blog and mark your calendar for the Design Teams Quickfire on Sunday.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Please wish me luck on our move this Thursday.

Is it very hard to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but
I can figure things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about making my own but I’m not
sure where to begin. Do you have any points or suggestions?

Is anyone else having this issue or is it a issue on my end?
I’ll check back later and see if the problem still
