How-to Video: One Layer Cards w/ Tone-on-Tone Stamping Technique + Giveaway

Hi, crafty friends! Today I have a set of one layer cards to share with you all featuring the Leaf Canopy Stamp Set and Happy Dreams Stamp Set from Altenew.

I made a video tutorial to show you how to create my watercolor card from start to finish. You can watch it above or in HD on YouTube.

To create my card, I started by ink blending on a piece of A2 Lagoon Cardstock with three shades of ink from Altenew Sweet Dreams Oval Ink Set: Aqualicious, Teal Cave, and Galactic Stream using a mini ink blending tool. 

I applied Aqualicious and Teal Cave inks toward the center of my panel and applied Galactic Stream ink heavily toward the edge of my panel to create an intense color.

To create a gradient ombre background, I overlapped the colors between each shade of purple colors. Your ink blending might look splotchy in the beginning, but believe me, once you keep blending with inks, the background will smoothen out once it’s dry.

Then I stamped the solid images from the Leaf Canopy Stamp Set with Galactic Stream Ink around the edge of my panel using myOriginal MISTI Stamping Tool. You can use the Altenew Embossing Ink for stamping if you want to create a subtle tone-on-tone background. 

Next, I stamped the sentiment from the Happy Dreams Stamp Set with Embossing Ink in the center of my panel,  sprinkled some Altenew Antique Gold Embossing Powder over the sentiment, tapped the excess powder off my paper, and heat set the sentiment with my heat tool until it was completely melted. 

To finish off my card, I added some tiny dots between the images using a white gel pen as the dot technique gives my card more finished look, while small dots add subtle details to my card design.

By the way, I also stamped the sentiment from the Happy Dreams Stamp Set inside my card and another sentiment from the Crafty Friends Stamp Set on the back with Altenew Jet Black Ink.

I made a matching envelope by stamping the same solid images from the Leaf Canopy Stamp Set on a flap of my envelope. I used three shades of ink from Altenew Sweet Dreams Oval Ink Set to achieve an ombre look of the images. This is one of my ways to dress up envelopes. So simple yet gorgeous!

For my second card, I created my ink blended background using the ink colors from Altenew Warm and Cozy Oval Ink Set: Orange Cream, Autumn Blaze, and Firebrick.

For some reason, my stamped images got blended on the paper and lost the crisp impression. I think it’s because of the texture of my orange paper which I found from my stash. But I still love the look as it looks like I did some ghost stamping.

To add a messy yet beautiful golden accent on my card front, I applied  Altenew Embossing Ink directly along the top/bottom of my panel and heat embossed the areas using Altenew Antique Gold Embossing Powder. It was my first time trying messy heat embossing, and I had so much fun! 

It’s a shame that my camera failed to catch the gradient look of my inked background. The colors look more dramatic and beautiful in real life.
