Happy Monday! Welcome to the Hero Arts March 2017 My Monthly Hero Kit Blog Hop. If you came from the amazing Jennifer McGuire’s blog, you are right on track! Today the creative team girls and guests are sharing some fabulous projects to celebrate the release of March 2017 My Monthly Hero Kit.

I used 10 different types of mushroom images from the You’re a Fungi stamp set to create a large mushroom cluster as a focal point on my one layer card. I also used a flower image from the Happy Mother’s Day stamp set to add some interest to my mushroom cluster – I stamped three flowers to create a visual triangle.

Masking technique is a great way to create the illusion of depth as the image you stamp first is in the foreground and the second image is partially behind the first image. It definitely takes time, but once you remove all the masks, you’ll be amazed by the beauty of masking.

I made a video tutorial to show you how to create my card from start to finish – I’m sharing lots of tips you don’t want to miss! You can watch it here or in HD on my YouTube channel:

How to Make a One Layer Card using Masking Technique and Colored Pencils

  1. Stamp the images from the You’re a Fungi stamp set with Hero Arts black ink.
  2. Stamp the same images on post-it notes, cut them out with scissors, layer them on the stamped images.
  3. Color the first layer of images using Copic markers.
  4. Add layers and shading using Prismacolor colored pencils.
  5. Color the whole background using Copic marker N8: Natural Gray.
  6. Add white dots using Signo white gel pen.
  7. Trace the outlines of each image using Micron black pen 0.3.
  8. Stamp the sentiment from the You’re a Fungi stamp set with Hero Arts Unicorn white ink.
  9. Mount the colored panel onto A2 size top folding card using a glue tape.

When I first saw this beautiful card, I thought it was done a completely different way. I have been wanting to try a technique called “black magic”. It is done is by stamping a solid image with white pigment ink onto black cardstock and coloring over it with colored pencils. Now I think I will try both ways, then I will know which technique works best for me. You are card definitely was inspiration for me! Thank you so much!
