Catered Crop: Birthday Sequin Shaker Cards

by May Park-

Happy Sunday! I’m so happy to be back here as a member of the Catered Crop design team after having a 3-month break. I’ve missed sharing my cards with you all and working with my talented teammates. Today I have a couple of cards to share that I made for the Catered Crop: End Zone challenge.

For this challenge, use the picture above for your inspiration. You can celebrate the sport of football and/or take direct inspiration from the colors, patterns, etc. of the picture. Without further ado, here is what I came up with:

DSC_2678I created a birthday sequin shaker card for my friend’s daughter. I made my own black and white stripe pattern using masking technique. I used the awesome Springtime Mix Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh to fill my shaker box. I can’t get enough of those sweet sequins. I love the way my card turned out. So fun and lovely as well. FYI, I used the two different sized circle dies from Lifestyle Crafts Nesting Circles die set to cover the window. But you don’t need to use the die to make the card. Just cut out the paper/acetate using scissors, making sure to cut it big enough to cover the window. (By the way, I’m entering this into the Mama Elephant and Me challenge.)

DSC_2676This is a close up of my shaker box. Doesn’t it look so yummy? It’s hard to see from the photo, but I applied some glossy accents on the cherry and added some shimmer on the frosting using Wink of Stella glitter marker. Those sequin scatters in soft colors absolutely make me happy! What do you think?

sample_1022This is how I created my shaker card. 1)Temporarily adhere some washi tape over the card front for making technique. To create the line of equal intervals, I covered the entire card front with washi tape and peeled it off in between. 2)Apply color using a blending tool and Distress Ink Black Soot. 3)Peel off the making tape carefully. Then heat emboss the sentiment from Make a Wish stamp set by Mama Elephant with gold embossing powder. 4)Create a window using a circle die from Lifestyle Crafts Nesting Circles Die Set. Cut one piece of acetate and glue it to the back of the circle window. Make a thin ring with circle dies and heat emboss it with gold embossing powder. Then inlay it over the acetate window. 5)Stamp a cupcake image using Carnival Cupcakes stamp set from Mama Elephant. Then color the image with Copics. 6)Fill up the circle window with Springtime Mix Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh. Then cover the back over using foam adhesive to help the sequins move around.

DSC_2669Since I was so pleased with how my card turned out, I couldn’t resist making another one with same theme but different colors. This time I filled my shaker box with Festive Fall Sequin Mix from Neat and Tangled. Which card do you like most? Pink or purple? Don’t ask me, because I adore both cards! Ha-ha! Fun, lovely, cheery, joyful, and colorful! I hope you enjoyed my cards and got some inspiration to make your own shaker card.
