Hi crafty friends! I’m taking the new Online Card Class: CAS 3 – One-Layer Cards. Today I learned some new technique called iron-off embossing from Jennifer McGuire and wanted to give it a try.
I came up with a birthday card using Christmas color scheme : gold, red, green. I had no idea why Christmas came to my mind in March! But I can feel the Spring mood at the same time for some reason. I used both ‘inlaid die cut ‘ and ‘iron-off embossing’ to create this watercolor card.
I started with a A2 card size and ended up with square card. Do you know why? I wanted to save some clear embossing powder, so sprinkled it only along the masked area. After ironing, I found the paper colors looked different between embossed area and non-embossed area. So I had to trim off the top portion of my card base. I realized that there was a particular reason why Jennifer heat embossed whole area except masked area. I should have followed her instruction. sigh! Anyway the iron-off embossing technique was awesome, even though I needed some time to experiment.
Here is a closer look at my card. I like the die cuts adhered inside watercolored background. I think my watercoloring was perfect! 😉 What do you think? Love the vibrant and uneven colors that watercolor created. Each time I brush watercolor paint on the watercolor paper, I get a different result. I couldn’t be sure how it would turn out until it dries. That’s why I love watercolors.
By thew way, the happy die is from SSS and sentiment is from Happy stamp set by Simon Says Stamp. To add some interest, I adhered some sequins from Neat And Tangled to the card front. For the card base, I used the True Black paper from Papertrey Ink.
FYI, these are the supplies I used to create my card: Cuttlebug cutting machine and papers were not pictured. That’s it for today.
