Good morning crafty friends! It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for a new challenge over at CASology! Here is this week’s cue card:
Today is also “Mardi Gras Day” which is the official first day of Carnival Season. To be honest, I’ve never heard of Mardi Gras until sweet Ardyth mentioned it while CASology DT members were chatty with all the emails going back and forth last week. I learned that it is a holiday in some parts of the United States, and everyone is wearing purple, green, and gold with long beads. It also includes wearing masks and costumes, dancing, parades, etc. Since Ardyth gave me some hint where I started for this week’s cue word, I decided to go with a roller coaster for my take on CARNIVAL.
I created some optical illusion card. What do you see? Do you see the brown silhouette of a roller coaster with ups and downs? How about a white person screaming facing left? You may see both at the same time. Easy peasy? At least it’s interesting, right? I wanted the sentiment like “This is how we live it, like riding a roller coaster.” But I had to compromise with “This is how we do it” from Good Times stamp set by Mama Elephant.
I like double optical illusion by changing my focus where I see in my card. Life is like a roller coaster. It has its ups and downs…but it’s your choice to either scream or enjoy the ride. Be positive. – Unknown. I added this quote inside of my card. Isn’t it perfect saying for my roller coaster illusion card?
Since the first card was too flat and plain to represent the carnival, I added some movement and colors on my second card. I was drawn to the colors and circles from Mardi Gras beads. The different sized circles are from Beautiful Blooms II stamp set by Papertrey ink, and the sentiment is from Good Times stamp set by Mama Elephant. To make my card look colorful, I used Hero Arts shadow inks: orange soda, soft leaf, passion flower, and butter bar. Love the fun and festive mood that the circles created. What do you think?
FYI, I’d like to share step-by-step instructions on how to make one layer card with visual illusion images. 1)Draw face line on a piece of paper. 2)Cut it along the pencil line to create a mask. 3)Adhere the mask temporarily on the card base using removable adhesive. 4)Stamp the circle images randomly in different colors. 5)Remove the mask and stamp the sentiment using Versamark ink. 6)Heat emboss it with green embossing powder.
These are the supplies I used to create my second card. That’s all from me today. Make sure to stop by each of the DT’s blog for more inspiration! I hope you play along with us as the winner will have a chance to guest design on the next challenge – more details are on the CASology blog.

Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is important and everything. But think about if you added some great photos or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and video clips, this site could undeniably be one of the best in its field. Excellent blog!|

May, these cards are brilliant! I love those visual “optical illusion” challenges…I love that I can change what I see from the roller coaster to the screaming profile! (Aren’t our brains fascinating?) Two great cards, May!
