Hey everyone on this happy summer day! I hope you’ve all had an amazing weekend. Popping in to share a card that I made a few days ago. My inspiration came from a DSW shopping bag. Anyone of you who have no idea what it looks like, just click here. It is a brown bag with the brand name between black stripes. I opted to follow the color combo and layout from the bag.
To create the black stripes, firstly, I attempted heat embossing with Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Powder. The result was not good, though. It looked messy and grungy. Then I tried a masking technique over the Kraft paper and colored the spaces in between using Copic black marker. I used the Post-it-notes for masking, but they didn’t work well, because the color got smudged under the edges of the Post-it.
The last thing I tried was using scor tape, and I got a pretty successful result. I drew the lines using a pencil and ruler. Then I applied some scor tape along each lines with a large space left for the sentiment. Next, I peeled off the backing, sprinkled some black power, and brushed off of the excess. After that, I added the sentiment from Stylish Sentiments: Birthday by Papertrey Ink.
I almost put some bling onto the card. I’m glad I resisted the temptation and kept my card one layer and CAS as well. Oh, I’m not sure if I can call this a clean card, because I used Kraft and black which aren’t bright with no white space. What do you think? Hope you like my creation as much as I do. 😉

I love to see how she uses ordinary things as an inspiration to create cards. Since then I wanted to make my own card using some things around my craft desk. Then I ended up with black-striped birthday cards, inspired by a DSW shopping bag.
