Me(ll)ow Yellow Card

by May Park-

Happy Friday, peeps! Today I’m sharing my Quickfire card for the latest Catered Crop Recipe Swap. This time it’s a Mellow Yellow challenge which asks us to use yellow somewhere in our paper craft project. Linda gave us some examples what colors go well with yellow: yellow and pink, yellow and purple, and yellow and black.

She also used the following terms to give more details: sunshine bright, lemon zest, and mellow yellow. Wait a second! Mellow yellow? I’ve been curious for a long time what “mellow yellow” means, but I’ve never had a chance to look it up in the dictionary.

So I took some time to search for it and then I couldn’t find any good definition that made sense. All I got from the dictionary was that it’s a song written by Donovan. But that was not about something related to the color yellow that I was looking for. Um… my question hasn’t been answered yet.

To create my card, I started with a yellow panel which was cut to 4” tall by 5.5” wide. Then I ran my Silhouette cutting machine to get the cat image and the sentiment. FYI, I bought the silhouette image of the cat for $.99 at Silhouette Design Studio. I didn’t use my cut-out image but the negative part. Then I layered some black cardstock under the yellow panel to bring out the image of the black cat.

By the way, the eyes and whiskers were cut out separately from the body. Then I glued them directly onto her face. To make her eyes twinkle, I affixed a couple of gemstones in the middle of her eyes.

For the sentiment, I wanted to play with two words: meow and mellow. I found out I was easily able to create the word “MEOW” by taking out the two Ls out of MELLOW. I intended to place them to look like they were dropping from the original word: MELLOW. That way you can notice “Mellow Yellow” and “MEOW” at the same time when you see my card. Does it seem that way  to you?

To add an interest, I decorated my cat with a wooden ribbon around her neck after threading some pink linen thread. I’m not sure you can see from the photo, but the wooden ribbon have a carved detail on it which are little flower and the word ‘Love.’ For a more finished look, I used a black pen to make a faux stitching border. To match the pink thread, I chose pink cardstock for my card base.

My hubby and I’ve wanted to have a cat since we had experienced pet sitting for my friend’s old cat for two weeks in 2010. It didn’t happened to us yet because of some reason. That was why I felt kind of so touching while I was making this card. I love the way my card turned out. My little black cat looks so sleek and lovesome. I just can’t help to fall in love with her pose like that!

For more inspiration and all the details, please check out the challenge over at the Catered Crop: Mellow Yellow Quickfire. Plus, the winners have a chance to guest design on the next recipe swap and you have until June 8th to join in.

Thanks so much for stopping by and for taking the time to leave such sweet comments. It’s really appreciated. I hope you all have a wonderful day and a great weekend!
