CAS Birthday Card

by May Park-

Happy Monday, crafty friends! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. I’ve been busy over the past few weeks with moving into our new apartment. I had intended to play along with a few challenges when I finished organizing my craft room. But I couldn’t come up with a *creative* idea. That was the reason you didn’t hear from me for a while. I was out of touch. 🙁

To be honest, I made a few cards last week. They were not good enough to show you, though. Yesterday morning I was still struggling with the creative process, when inspiration finally struck. Then I had to work almost all day long to execute my idea.

So, here I am with a birthday card to share with you today. I made this card for my dearest friend, Mei, who has a birthday in May. I wanted to play with the first letter of Mei and May, which is “M.” My inspiration came from nail and string letters by Jen. I don’t know if my card qualifies as string art. Ha-ha!

Here is a closer look at my card. To create the background, I embossed a piece of white cardstock with the Cuttlebug Embossing Folder: Swiss Dots. As you can see above, I did a partial embossing to leave a spot open for stamping. (FYI, you can watch a how-to video here by Sarah.) Then I stamped the sentiment from PTI Birthday Stamp Set.

To create a monogrammed letter M, I started by poking some tiny holes through the paper using a straight pin. Next, I threaded the needle with embroidery floss and put stitches through the holes. After that, I put a brad into each hole. Needless to say, the big M stands for Mei and May as well.

To finish off the card, I cut slits in two corners of my card base from Papertrey Ink. Then I placed my embossed white panel onto the base. I managed to make my card look CAS and contemporary as well. I think the pink color of the cardstock and brads also makes my card cute and girly. What do you think? Hope you like it. Anyway, I love the way my card turned out.

Well, that’s it for me today! I hope you will join in the fun with the Catered Crop: Make an Impression Recipe Swap. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a wonderful week!
